Hyperlinks
Entering Hyperlinks:
- Open
up an Excel spreadsheet
- In
cell A1, type in ‘Information on the University of Maryland’
- Size
the column to fit the text by double clicking on the upper right hand
boundary of column A
- Now
click on cell B1
- Use
the pull down menu, and click on ‘Insert’ then ‘Hyperlink’
- In the
‘Type the file or web page name’ box, type in ‘http://www.umd.edu/’
- Click
on ‘OK’
- Remember
to resize column B to fit the text – double click on the upper right hand
boundary of column B
- Now,
in cell A3, type in ‘Information on the weather’
- Click
on cell B3
- Right
click in the cell, and then click on ‘Hyperlink’ in the shortcut menu that
appears
- In the
‘Type the file or web page name’ box, type in ‘http://www.weather.com/’
- Click
on ‘OK’
- Once
again, you’ll have to resize column B – double click on the upper right
hand boundary of column B
- In
cell A5, type in ‘Search Engine’
- Now
click on B5
- Right
click in the cell, and then once the shortcut menu appears, click on
‘Hyperlink’
- In the
‘Type the file or web page name’ box, type in ‘http://www.altavista.com/’
- Click
on ‘OK’
Editing Hyperlinks:
- Right
click on cell B1 (this allows you to use the cell without accessing the
hyperlink) – the shortcut menu should appear
- Click
on ‘Hyperlink’ and then ‘Edit Hyperlink’
- In the
‘Text to display’ box, delete the text that is already there, and type in
‘UMD Website’
- Click
on ‘OK’
- Right
click on cell B5
- In the
shortcut menu that appears, click on ‘Hyperlink’ and then ‘Edit Hyperlink’
- In the
‘Type the file or web page name’ box, delete the text that is already
there, and type in ‘http://www.google.com/’
- Now,
in the ‘Text to display box’, type ‘Google’
- Click
‘OK’
Your final worksheet should look
