Copying, Moving and Formulas
Setting up the worksheet:
- Open
up an Excel spreadsheet
- In
cell A1, type in ‘Deo’s scores’ and in cell B2, type in ‘Score out of 100’
- Then,
size the columns so that the data can fit in the cells – double click on
the upper right hand boundary of column A, and then do the same for column
B
- In
cells A3 through A8, type in ‘Exam 1’, ‘Project 1’, ‘Exam 2’, ‘Project 2’,
‘Exam 3’, and ‘Project 3’, respectively
- Now,
in cells B3 through B8, enter Deo’s scores – 98, 79, 85, 78, 69, and 95,
respectively
- In
cell A10, type in ‘Total Points’
- Click
on cell B10, and enter the formula ‘=SUM(B3:B8)’
- Press
‘Enter’ on the keyboard, and watch as the formula changes to the number

Copying Cells:
- In
cell D1, type in ‘Coco’s scores’
- Resize
the column to fit the text by double clicking on the upper right hand
boundary of column D
- Highlight
cell B2
- Use
the pull down menu and click on ‘Edit’ and then ‘Copy’
- Now
click on cell E2
- Use
the pull down menu again, and click on ‘Edit’ and then ‘Paste’
- Resize
column E by double clicking on it’s upper right hand border
- Now
highlight cells A3 through A10
- Right
click with your mouse, and in the shortcut menu that appears, click on
‘Copy’
- Now
click in cell D3
- Right
click again with your mouse, and this time, in the shortcut menu that
appears, click on ‘Paste’
Entering More Data:
- In
cells E3 through E8, enter Coco’s scores – she received a 77 on the first
exam, a 65 on her first project, a 99 on the second exam, an 82 on her
second project, a 94 on the third exam, and an 89 on her third project
Copying Formulas:
- Highlight
cell B10
- Use
the pull down menu, and click on ‘Edit’ and then ‘Copy’
- Now,
click on cell E10
- Use
the pull down menu, and click on ‘Edit’ and then ‘Paste’ – note how the
sum automatically appears
Your final worksheet should look
