The Average Function

What does this mean: A1:A5?

Answer: Well A1:A5 means that you the user are asking Excel to average the data in A1 through A5.

Practice, open a new Excel worksheet and type 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 in cell A1 through A5.

Go to Insert

Click on Function

Select the Average Function

Type the Average Function to average A1 to A5. 

What answer do you get?  Hopefully 3.

Your screen should look like this with your answer in A6.
